I thought that The Guest List was just another murder mystery on a remote island, à la Agatha Christie. But that was where the similarities ended. This book is a masterclass in storytelling, with the author expertly doling out information to keep you guessing.
As you turn the pages, the characters are beautifully built, and the story jumps back and forth in time, revealing their backstories and gradually peeling away the layers of the mystery. The beauty of the way the plot is laid out is that the riddle to be unraveled is a riddle in its own right. It’s intense at times, but the payoff is worth it – by the end, everything makes sense, and you get to see how all the pieces fit together.
I’d recommend reading it for the way the story is told – it’s a real page-turner.
